An important part of being a teacher is using our professional and specialized knowledge of data collection and individualized instruction to assess our students , gather individual information on each student, and teach each student according to their individual strengths and needs. This use of on-going assessment is the best way for educators to stay aware of where each of our students are academically and developmentally and to ensure they we are meeting each of their individual needs.
Why is Data Beneficial?
- Educator can reflect on their own practices
- Educator can generate new strategies to reach students
-Educator can make practical educational decisions
-Educator can meet the needs of individual student's learning styles
- Educator can determine and reevaluate previous decisions for effectiveness
Data Helps an Educator to Determine...
- What each of their students current levels are
- How to support each of their students
- How to design an activity or lesson
- How to adapt the environment
This data can help to drive individualized instruction as well as aide in determining groups based on the students needs, interests, or levels of support.
For more information on using data to drive individualized instruction please check out slides 7, 9-11, 13, and 20 from the presentation Using Data to Plan Instruction by Cathy Wishart.
